Case Studies

Contract Cleaning

Birmingham City Council, 2000- ongoing: RCS continues to deliver cleaning services to this large local authority and has been for over 40 years. We are currently supplying on site staff at various locations across Birmingham. Liaising with BCC managers is the main priority in order to identify where cover staff are needed for holidays, absenteeism and vacant positions. The main challenge RCS is confronted with is sourcing and placement of staff, often at short notice.

Mitchells & Butlers, 1994 – ongoing: RCS supplies on site cleaning staff to M&B pubs throughout the Birmingham/Solihull region. This involves supplying cleaners on a daily basis, 365 days per year. RCS trains, audits and performance manages every task we carry out,  in order to provide a top quality service.

Construction Cleaning

Arcadia Group, March 2012: RCS have recently completed builders cleans to five stock warehouses for the Arcadia Group. The focus of these particular builders cleans is to remove potential slip/trip hazards whilst the warehouses are re-stocked. ‘Ride on’ scrubber drier machines were deployed to provide an effective and quick solution to clearing the warehouse floor whilst building works and restocking was carried out simultaneously. Cherry pickers were deployed to carry out high level cleaning to the external corrugated cladding on the warehouses. These had become tarnished and dull over many years. It was decided that  Soda Blasting media would be used as opposed to jet washing, resulting in a much more ‘polished’ clean.

Eco Cleaning

Capricorn Coatings, October 2011- ongoing: After completing a full builder clean for this Birmingham based factory, the owners were very keen to explore Eco friendly systems for the cleaning and maintenance of their buildings. Firstly, we advised on removing chemicals which are considered harmful to the environment and suggested Eco friendly alternatives. Sometimes alternatives involve a different method of cleaning and sanitising so, through our training program, we worked closely with Capricorns’ facilities manager and cleaning operatives to deliver a new method and approach for day to day cleaning, which they have adopted and reported as being successful. Capricorn Coatings have invited us to audit their Green Cleaning Policy on a bi annual frequency and we also advise them on all matters of health and safety regarding cleaning within their factory.

Floor Restoration

InterContinental Hotel Group, March to Oct 2010: RCS won a contract to refurbish the main foyer floor areas for numerous hotels up and down the UK. These were mostly made up of polished granite decorative tiles which had become worn and faded over a period of time. Problems that we had to overcome were the health and safety of staff and guests, dust control and noise impact/disruption. We worked each foyer into 10m square areas to avoid large disruptions. A PCU (portable containment unit) dust chamber was erected from floor to ceiling and safety barriers placed outside of this. Loud machinery was only used between certain times when it was agreed that most guests would be out for the day. Although slow, as we worked in confined, designated areas, the system worked well and IHG did not receive any guest complaints. The company was so impressed with the quality of work carried out that we are currently in talks to apply the same process to some of their European hotels.

Void and Exit Cleans

Trident Housing Assoc, Jan 2012- ongoing: We were recently approached by Trident Housing to deliver a specialised cleaning service in occupied flats  to remove all food, grease and rodent droppings in order for a pest control company to contain/eliminate the rodent problem. In order for the operation to be successful RCS had to liaise with tenants and the pest control company to make sure each flat was environmentally cleaned before being baited and proofed for rodent elimination. The whole process took one month to complete and was successful to the extent we are now working with Trident Housing on a second and third site.

Birmingham City Council, Jan 1999-ongoing: As long term suppliers of specialist cleaning services to BCC we are tasked with void property cleaning at 200 sites across Birmingham. This process involves key collection and return, a complete environmental clean and rubbish disposal, carpet and upholstery cleaning if requested. Oven degreasing, toilet sanitising and needle removal are just some of the many specialised services we are required to perform in order to meet a 48 hour key/cleaning turnaround. RCS has formed a good working relationship with all the departments that we supply with cleaning, and over 13 years of  supplying the service, we regard only 3 complaints as a successfully delivered quality assurance programme.

Window Cleaning

Birmingham City Council, 1967- ongoing: RCS is procured by BCC  to supply window cleaning services to many sites throughout Birmingham. A major remit for most large organisations is to request water fed window cleaning systems in order to eliminate the use of ladders. RCS has been using water fed  systems since their inception back in 2002. Our teams are fully trained in traditional window cleaning methods as well, which means we can also clean the inside windows!
